The vanishing NPCs, most commonly the Bishop, is a really ancient bug dating back to before the original launch, but I think it was eventually fixed on PC. It happens because they wind up in an invalid location in their path around the village and get stuck there, with no ability to be force-teleported to where you actually need them to be (which would be an easy, if ugly, fix; after all, them walking to their 'post' is really just cosmetic).
I'm not surprised to see it resurface in ports.
